Origins of the club
Founded on the 10th August 2000 as Lancaster Castle Cricket Club with a committee made up of prison staff and family members. The club came into existence due to the growing popularity of friendly cricket matches. The role of club was to changed however with other sports being given the Castle treatment, and so on the 5th March 2002 the club became Lancaster Castle Sports and Social Club ( LCSSC), |
which represents all the sporting activities at HMP Lancaster Castle. Sports include football, rugby league, badminton, pool, fell walking, rock climbing and last but definitely not least cricket. The purpose of Lancaster Castle Sports and Social Club is to foster friendship and links through sporting and social activities between staff, staffs families, other establishments and the outside community.
